What is Solar Shield Insulation?
Solar Shield insulation is a reflective insulation effectively blocking almost all radiant heat energy that would otherwise be absorbed by and transferred through your insulation. Solar Shield will significantly reduce energy costs by virtually eliminating the effects of radiant heat transferred to your living space in the summer and reflecting the radiant heat to your living space in the winter.
How does Solar Shield insulation work?
Heat is transferred from one source to another by conduction, convection, and radiation. With conduction, heat is transferred directly between objects touching each other, like a pan on the stove. Your existing insulation and its associated R-Value prevent conductive heat transfer. Convective heat results from warmer air or fluids rising when displaced by denser, cooler air or fluid. In your home, the upstairs or ceiling area is warmer than the air at ground level. Radiant heat transfer is electromagnetic transfer of heat through “radiation.” It’s the heat you feel when you stand a few feet away from a fireplace and from the sun. It is also what makes your attic so hot in the summer as heat radiates off of the roof’s surface. Solar Shield insulation works in conjunction with your existing insulation by blocking more than 95% of the radiant heat so your insulation and living areas do not have to absorb it.
Why Clear Energy America’s Solar Shield?
Aluminum insulation products are NOT all created equal! Clear Energy America installs only premium grade, durable, and Class A/Class 1ASTM E84 fire rated material. Although all products have the same 99% aluminum coating, the inner layer (scrim) varies greatly between products. Our durable, heavyweight radiant barrier is 5 mils thick and is nearly impossible to tear, so it will likely last longer than your home itself!
